Accessibility Statement

Last updated: February 25, 2026

Our Commitment

Construction Bros is committed to making our construction calculators accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone should be able to access professional-grade construction tools, regardless of ability. We continuously work to improve the accessibility and usability of our site in alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

Standards We Follow

We strive to conform to the following accessibility standards:

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA — The internationally recognized standard for web accessibility published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
  • Section 508 — U.S. federal accessibility requirements for electronic and information technology.
  • WAI-ARIA 1.2 — Accessible Rich Internet Applications specifications for dynamic web content and interactive components.

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features across our site:

Keyboard Navigation

  • All interactive elements (inputs, buttons, links, tabs) are fully keyboard accessible.
  • Logical tab order follows the visual layout of each page.
  • Visible focus indicators are provided for all focusable elements.
  • Calculator-specific keyboard shortcuts are available (e.g., Enter for equals, Escape for clear in the Feet-Inches calculator).

Screen Reader Support

  • Semantic HTML elements (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <footer>) are used throughout the site for proper document structure.
  • ARIA labels and roles are applied to interactive components, including calculator inputs, result displays, tab panels, and navigation menus.
  • Form inputs have associated labels for clear identification.
  • SVG diagrams include descriptive titles and labels for screen reader users.
  • Dynamic content changes (calculation results, error messages) are announced via ARIA live regions where appropriate.

Visual Design

  • Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Information is never conveyed by color alone — text labels, icons, and patterns are used alongside color.
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • The site is responsive and adapts to various screen sizes, zoom levels, and orientations.

Touch and Interaction

  • All interactive elements have a minimum touch target size of 48x48 pixels (48px), as recommended by WCAG 2.1 and mobile accessibility best practices.
  • Adequate spacing between interactive elements prevents accidental activation.
  • No functionality requires complex gestures — all interactions can be completed with simple taps or clicks.

Content Accessibility

  • Pages use proper heading hierarchy (H1 through H3) for clear document structure.
  • Breadcrumb navigation is provided on all pages with BreadcrumbList structured data.
  • Links are descriptive and clearly indicate their destination.
  • Calculator results are presented in multiple formats (feet-inches, decimal, metric) for maximum clarity.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, we are aware of the following areas that may present challenges:

  • SVG Diagrams: Our interactive construction diagrams (stair profiles, roof cross-sections, etc.) are primarily visual. While they include text labels and titles, the full geometric information they convey may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. All critical numerical data is also presented in text form in the results section.
  • PDF Exports: Generated PDF files (e.g., stair calculator PDF export) may have limited accessibility features. We are working to improve the structure and tagging of exported PDFs.
  • Third-Party Content: Advertisements served by Google AdSense and product listings from Amazon may not meet our accessibility standards. We have limited control over the accessibility of third-party content.

How We Test

We regularly test our site for accessibility using a combination of:

  • Automated testing tools (Lighthouse, axe-core)
  • Manual keyboard navigation testing across all calculators
  • Screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver)
  • Browser zoom testing up to 200%
  • Mobile device testing across various screen sizes

Continuous Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly review and update our site to improve accessibility as we add new calculators and features. This statement will be updated as we make progress and address known limitations.
